Next on RealTalk Undressed: "What Does Valentine mean to you?" [The Valentine Special Edition]

On the next episode of RealTalk Undressed [S01E04], the topic "What Does Valentine mean to you and How do you celebrate it?" will be discussed.

True love does not wait for a particular day…true love does not have to search for valentine deliberately … true love does not need a token of gift of gifts… true love is one that is felt & understood in its own very special way. VALENTINE’S DAY was, and should still be, all about sacrifice for the sake of humanity & for the sake of justice.

Real love is messy and complicated, delightful and sweet and worth more than anything we might get, once a year, in a pink, heart-shaped box with a sparkly bow.

The origin of this day lies with great St. Valentine sacrificing his life for the sake of others. The history & origin of “Valentine’s Day” is not clear as there are different legends associated with different parts of world & different phases of time. But, one instance that can be evidenced at several places is that “St. Valentine was a priest in Rome. When Emperor decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives & families, St. Valentine stood against this injustice. He performed marriages of these young soldiers. But, his actions were discovered by Emperor and he was put to death.”

“St. Valentine sacrificed his life for his love to humanity.”

Now, it’s on us how to respect & how to celebrate this day, as it is not just an epitome of love for your sweetheart. In many countries a trend has started to communicate the feeling of love to a parent, a child, a sibling or a friend. Everyone needs to be loved, and often many relationships are taken for granted, but on Valentine’s Day each one can make an extra effort to express these emotions in a special way.

Valentine's Day should, actually, be a reminder to focus on what we have, as opposed to what's missing. It can warn us that comparisons are dangerous, especially when we're comparing ourselves to some perfect relationship that cannot exist. Not for us; not for anyone. There is nothing like a perfect relationship.

Love is about acceptance. It's about adjusting our expectations and not demanding perfection, or even seeking it. Love is about noticing what's good and nurturing it, as well as noticing what needs repair and attending to it.

People often complain about the everyday annoyances and disappointments, the repetitive frustrations that make relationships a challenge. On the other hand, we can celebrate the whole lot of it: the happy times, the struggles and the lessons we learn and will continually from them.

Real love is messy and complicated, delightful and sweet and worth more than anything we might get, once a year, in a pink, heart-shaped box with a sparkly bow.
